In a world where the most important thing for a young woman is to snare a rich husband, wealthy Matilda Prentiss (Alice Brady) is willing to back a Broadway musical to catapult her beautiful daughter, Ann (Stewart--Titanic), to stardom so she can take her pick of wealthy financiers. But Ann surprises everyone by falling in love with impoverished, charming, golden-voiced bellhop Dick Curtis (Powell). But, in the end, true love will win the day, and everyone will be wowed by some of the greatest musical numbers ever recorded on film.
