When you think of nurses, you likely think of warm and caring individuals who help you when you are ill. However, in Lainz Hospital in Vienna from 1983-1989, four nurse's aides were not assisting their patients, but killing them. Waltraud Wagner, Irene Leidolf, Maria Gruber, and Stephanija Meyer were four women who killed their elderly patients due to the slightest annoyance. Their murderous spree continued for years until they were caught in 1989 and sentenced in 1991. All four of the women are now free. Their release has left many Austrians wondering if their judicial system and sentencing laws are in need of reform.
